Aurum muriaticum

A noble-metal chloride prepared for homeopathic use by trituration (dry) or from the solution, then serial dilution and succussion to potency. Classical usage emphasises fibrotic–sclerotic and indurative states of the uterus and ovaries (fibroids, chronic metritis, enlarged indurated uterus), glandular indurations, and hypertrophic or syphilitic conditions; also cardio-vascular irritability, hepatic sclerosis, and the Aurum mental depth (gloom, self-reproach), though less suicidally intense than Aurum metallicum in many reports [Hering], [Clarke], [Boericke], [Boger], [Kent], [Hale].

Provings and clinical collections describe pelvic organ indurations (uterus, cervix, ovaries), menorrhagia and metrorrhagia, bearing-down and prolapse, cardiac palpitation with vascular excitement, hepatic enlargement with nodosity, nasal and bone pains at night (syphilitic trend), glandular indurations, and a grave, reproachful mood improved by occupation or open air [Hering], [Allen], [Clarke], [Boericke], [Hale], [Kent].

Essence: Induration with gravity of spirit. Choose Aurum muriaticum (or Aurum mur. nat.) when the case is organised by hardness and enlargement of pelvic organs (uterus/cervix/ovaries), fibroids with bleeding disorders, bearing-down and prolapse, and a serious, remorseful, duty-bound mental tone. Open air, occupation, and pelvic support bring relief; night, emotion, long standing, and close rooms aggravate. Consider it when Conium’s turning-vertigo is absent, Sepia’s lax–ptotic apathy is not convincing, and the uterus feels heavy, hard, and sore with clotty or irregular bleeding and reflex palpitation [Clarke], [Boericke], [Boger], [Hale], [Kent].

• Female pelvis. Uterine and cervical induration, fibroids, enlarged heavy uterus, chronic metritis, menorrhagia/metrorrhagia, sterility from indurated cervix/ovaries, bearing-down with prolapse; pains radiate to sacrum and thighs [Clarke], [Boericke], [Hale].
• Ovaries. Enlarged, sensitive, indurated; left-sided bias sometimes noted; dysmenorrhoea from fibrosis; cystic–fibrotic terrains [Hale], [Clarke].
• Glands. Indurations (cervical, parotid, mesenteric), chronic enlargement with tenderness; peri-glandular fibrosis [Hering], [Boger].
• Hepato-biliary. Hepatic enlargement, nodular hardness, early cirrhotic states with portal irritation; yellow sallow hue [Boericke], [Clarke], [Hale].
• Cardio-vascular. Palpitation, hypertension surges, vascular irritability with temporal throbbing and angry flushes; secondary to pelvic disease frequently [Clarke], [Boger].
• Bones/naso-pharynx (syphilitic trend). Night bone pains, nasal ulceration, obstruction; caries tendency milder than Aurum met. but present in mixed taints [Hering], [Kent].
• Mind. Grave sadness, self-reproach, religious–moral scruple, irritable despair around pelvic disease and sterility; better open air, occupation [Kent], [Clarke].

Grave, inward, dutiful. Self-reproach, anxiety about health and responsibility, religious scruples; sadness with irritability in chronic pelvic sufferers (fibroid, prolapse, infertility) [Kent], [Clarke]. Despair about cure yet better with occupation or open air; aversion to consolation. Fear of failure; weeps alone; occasional impulse to self-destruction far less vehement than Aurum met. in most pelvic cases, but the dark colouring remains [Kent], [Boericke]. Sensitive to contradiction; anger aggravates palpitation and pelvic congestion [Clarke], [Boger].

Sleepless from pelvic weight and throbbing; wakes after midnight with anxious thoughts, bone pains, or palpitation; better in cool room, window open. Dozing in early morning with heavy dreams; unrefreshed on rising when bleeding has been profuse [Clarke], [Kent], [Boericke].

Of duties neglected, religious failure, dead relatives, operations; anxious, self-reproachful colouring; wake sad, drained [Kent], [Clarke].

Axis: Induration + Pelvic weight + Vascular excitement + Night gloom. Think Aurum muriaticum where organs harden and enlarge (uterus, cervix, ovaries, glands, liver), bleeding is disordered (too much or obstructed), and the mind sags into grave self-reproach. Better: open air, support/pressure to the pelvis, steady occupation. Worse: night, damp, close rooms, emotion, long standing, coitus. Distinguish from Aurum metallicum (more bone–nasal caries, frontal bone pains, violent suicidal impulse), Sepia (pelvic stasis with bearing-down, irritable indifference, often better exercise and has ptosis–yellow saddle; less stony induration), Calcarea fluorica (fibroids and stony glands, but chilly, relaxed tissues, and less mental weight), Conium (stony gland indurations with turning-vertigo hallmark), Thyroidinum (fibroids with metabolic acceleration), and Bellis perennis (deep pelvic trauma sequelae without the Aurum mental depth) [Clarke], [Boger], [Boericke], [Kent], [Hale].

Not a high-fever remedy. Evening heat with flush, palpitation; night aggravation of bone pains; sweat slight, non-relieving [Hering], [Clarke].

Chill in damp; heat as flushes with vascular excitement; sweat minimal, sometimes about pelvis/neck at night; sweat does not relieve congestion [Boericke], [Clarke].

Congestive throbbing with pelvic congestion; vertex pressure, temporal throbs; worse night, warm rooms, emotion; better open air [Clarke]. Frontal heaviness during menorrhagia; occipital pull with uterine bearing-down (spino-pelvic reflex). Nasal obstruction with dull head and night bone pains in syphilitic terrains [Hering], [Kent].

Photophobia with congestive headache; lachrymation in wind; orbital pressure when uterus congested (reflex) [Clarke]. Syphilitic taint may show iritic pains at night (rare note) [Hering].

Roaring with palpitation; flushes mount to ears; evening noise worse in close rooms [Clarke], [Boger].

Obstruction, ulceration with fetor in syphilitic trend; night aggravation; sensitive septum; post-nasal mucus thick, tenacious [Hering], [Clarke].

Sallow, earthy, sometimes anaemic; flushes during palpitation; tired, lined expression; dark under-eyes in menorrhagia [Clarke], [Boericke].

Metallic taste mornings; tongue indented, pale; salivation rare; sore gums in syphilitic history [Hering], [Clarke].

Night tooth–bone pains (syphilitic) worse cold damp; teeth feel long; jaw aching with sinus–nasal involvement [Hering].

Rawness, hawking of thick mucus; submaxillary nodes indurated; pressing collar unpleasant in palpitations [Clarke].

Short breath on exertion or stairs; sighing; desire for open air; heaviness from uterine weight (reflex) [Clarke].

Constipation with large, dry stools; rectal pressure from enlarged uterus; haemorrhoids congested during menses [Clarke], [Boericke].

Irritable bladder from uterine pressure; frequent urging, little at a time; albuminous traces in hepatic–congestive notes (clinical) [Hale], [Clarke].

Aversion to rich food, fat; desire for cool water; alcohol flushes and aggravates palpitation; salt taken moderately in anaemic menorrhagia terrains (clinical) [Clarke], [Boericke].

Less central than female sphere, yet prostate and testicular indurations, sexual debility with self-reproach; nocturnal bone pains in syphilitic history [Hering], [Clarke]. Palpitation after coitus/emotion [Boger].

Prime field. Fibroids with menorrhagia/metrorrhagia, chronic metritis, hard cervix, sterility from indurated cervix/ovaries; bearing-down, prolapse, backache to sacrum, dragging to thighs [Hale], [Clarke], [Boericke]. Menses: too profuse, long, with clots, exhaustion; or scant, delayed in indurative states. Leucorrhoea acrid, tenacious. Sexual desire depressed with irritability; dyspareunia from induration. After childbirth: subinvolution with stony feel responds in classic reports [Clarke], [Hale].

Sacral ache, dragging to thighs; sore lumbo-sacral band; relieved by support; cervical node induration with stiff neck [Clarke], [Boericke].

Aching of thighs during menses; heaviness; night bone pains in tibiae/ulnae in syphilitic history; cold hands/feet with flushing head [Hering], [Kent].

Indurations, nodules, warts; brownish patches; ulceration in syphilitic trend, worse at night, edges hard [Hering], [Clarke].

• Uterine fibroids / chronic metritis
  • Sepia — Marked ptosis, bearing-down, pelvic emptiness, better vigorous exercise; less stony feel, more venous stasis.
  • Calcarea fluorica — Stony fibroids with ligamentous laxity; chilliness; fewer mental scruples.
  • Conium — Stony glands, breast/testis focus; vertigo from turning is keynote; less uterine bleeding disorder.
  • Thyroidinum — Metabolic acceleration, weight changes; adjunct for fibroids with myxoedematous features.
• Pelvic pain with menorrhagia/metrorrhagia
  • Sabina — Profuse bright blood with clots and sacral pains; more fresh haemorrhage tone.
  • Ustilago — Oozing, dark, stringy haemorrhage; ovarian irritation; less indurative feel.

• Syphilitic bone–nasal
  • Aurum metallicum — More bone caries (nasal bones, palate), head pains at night, suicidal despair; broader osteitis than Aur-m.
  • Mercurius — Night pains with sweat and salivation; more ulcerative sloughing; less induration.
• Hepatic sclerosis / portal
  • Chelidonium — Sharp scapular pains, jaundice; less indurative pelvic affinity.
  • Carduus marianus — Congestive liver with portal distress; not the Aurum mental and uterine picture.

• Complementary: Sepia (venous pelvic stasis), Calcarea fluorica (hard fibrous masses), Conium (indurated glands and nodules), Thyroidinum (fibroid/metabolic layer), Bellis perennis (deep pelvic trauma, subinvolution) [Clarke], [Boericke], [Boger], [Hale].
• Follows well: Bellis perennis or Arnica after pelvic trauma when induration remains; Ustilago/Sabina when haemorrhagic phase subsides leaving fibroid hardness [Clarke], [Hale].
• Precedes well: Sepia or Lachesis for residual venous stasis and left-sided congestive flush; Silicea for late suppurative change if it arises [Boger], [Clarke].
• Antidotes/Notes: Open air, pelvic support, iron management for menorrhagia anaemia (orthodox measures alongside); avoid emotional exhaustion and long standing [Clarke], [Boericke].
• Inimical: No fixed inimicals recorded; avoid alternation unless picture shifts [Boger].

• Uterine fibroids and indurations — one of the strongest remedies for chronic uterine enlargement, fibroids, induration of cervix, and prolapse with bearing-down pains [Clarke], [Boericke].
• Ovarian tumours — beneficial in cystic or indurated ovaries, with deep pelvic pain and depressive mood [Hughes].
• Chronic uterine haemorrhage — menorrhagia from fibroids or indurated uterus, with exhaustion and melancholy [Clarke].
• Syphilitic affections — indurated glands, bones, periosteal nodes, and ulcerations, particularly when secondary or tertiary manifestations persist [Allen].
• Cardiac hypertrophy and valvular disease — used when heart enlargement is associated with high blood pressure, oppression, and dyspnoea [Clarke], [Boericke].
• Hepatic enlargement — cirrhosis, fatty degeneration, or induration of liver; has a long record in chronic hepatic pathology [Clarke].
• Depression and suicidal tendency — profound melancholy, sense of unworthiness, suicidal impulse; often accompanies uterine and cardiac complaints [Kent].
• Obesity with uterine and ovarian pathology — noted especially in women with sluggish circulation, uterine fibroids, and fatty degeneration [Boericke].
• Potency guidance — low triturations (3X–6X) for indurations, glandular enlargements, and cardiac pathology; higher potencies (30C and above) for mental and syphilitic states [Kent], [Clarke].
• Adjunctive role — often follows Aurum met. in deeper syphilitic or glandular indurations, and complements Sepia or Calcarea in uterine pathology [Boericke].

• Uterine fibroid with haemorrhage — A woman with menorrhagia, bearing-down pain, and indurated uterus improved greatly on Aurum mur. nat. 3X, reducing bleeding and pelvic distress [Clarke].
• Syphilitic periosteal node — A man with painful swelling of tibia from tertiary syphilis was relieved by Aurum mur. 6X, after mercury had failed [Allen].
• Hypertrophied heart — A case of cardiac enlargement with dyspnoea, oppression, and palpitations responded well to Aurum mur. nat. 3X, taken thrice daily [Boericke].
• Chronic ovarian induration — A middle-aged woman with painful, enlarged left ovary and melancholic depression improved steadily on Aurum mur. nat. 6X, with gradual subsidence of induration [Hughes].
• Suicidal depression with uterine fibroid — A woman with deep sadness, loss of hope, and impulses to self-destruction, in the setting of a uterine fibroid, improved mentally and physically under Aurum mur. nat. 30C [Kent].
