Mind

Aur-m-n. shares the melancholy and despair of Aurum metallicum but with an added deep inertia, weariness of life, and functional insanity. The mental picture is marked by discontent, self-condemnation, and intense anguish, especially in women with uterine or cardiac pathology [Clarke]. There’s a strong suicidal tendency, often with a sudden impulse to end life by jumping from windows or high places. A marked fear of being incurable, of insanity, or of disgrace. The patient is irritable, introspective, and has exaggerated guilt, often accompanying conditions of uterine tumours or fibroids. Manic episodes may alternate with deep depression, especially in cases of puerperal insanity or menstrual suppression. Sadness is aggravated at night, leading to restlessness, sighing, and moaning. Obsessive thoughts may circle around the failure of vital organs, especially the heart, and may border on delusional hypochondria.

Sleep

Eyes

Photophobia with congested conjunctiva. Pupils dilated or sluggish. Inflammation of choroid or retina, especially in uterine pathology. Pain in the eyeballs during headaches. Lacrimation with burning. Dim vision with vertigo or palpitations. Suitable in syphilitic iritis or in cases where uterine disease causes ocular disturbances.

Ears

Buzzing, humming, or roaring in ears, particularly with menstrual disturbances or anaemia. Otalgia during uterine complaints. Oversensitivity to sound. Vertigo with ear congestion.

Nose

Ozaena with destruction of nasal septum. Yellow-green offensive discharge. Dry crusts with ulceration and fetid odour. Nasal congestion with pressure at root of nose. Suitable for tertiary syphilis affecting the nasal bones.

Face

Pale, sunken, or sallow complexion. Deep furrows from mental suffering. Expression melancholy and weary. Swelling of malar bones with tenderness. Neuralgia extending from jaw to ear. Discoloration over zygoma.

Mouth

Tongue coated yellow or dry, sometimes ulcerated. Metallic taste in mouth. Burning vesicles on tongue and inside cheeks. Foetid breath, especially in uterine sepsis. Inflammation of palate with painful swallowing. Speech may become slow and soft during depressive spells.

Teeth
